The British weather finally looks like it is getting closer to summer and more and more people have been buying patio furniture and other outdoor furniture in preparation for barbeques and family gatherings. There are a wide range of styles of modern conservatory furniture available at the moment – from cane and wicker to sun-loungers and Mediterranean style seating areas.
One of the best outdoor furniture materials you can buy is rattan. Natural rattan is vine-like and climbs its way to the top of the forest canopy to find sunlight. Natural rattan can then be wound around a wooden frame to create all kinds of furniture from chairs to tables and sofas.
However, natural rattan has several problems. First, you cannot leave it outside all year round as the material is not weather-proof. This means that you need a considerable amount of storage space as some of the pieces aren’t small and don’t stack well. Secondly, the chairs are prone to mould and other growths in damper weather which means they need to be cleaned regularly. Finally, the colouring of the rattan can fade if exposed to too much sunlight. All these factors mean that natural rattan is not a very sustainable choice for outdoor furniture.
Thankfully, it is possible to buy synthetic rattan furniture which is normally made from plastics such as polythene, polycarbonate or recycled plastics. These pieces can be left outside all year round but also look fantastic as conservatory furniture. The plastic is treated so that fading in sunlight isn’t so much of an issue in the short-term and that moulds won’t grow so there is much less fuss every time you want to use them.
Synthetic rattan furniture is a great way of making your conservatory or garden a great place to spend time. The sofa style pieces make great modern conservatory furniture and when coupled with some comfy cushions are much better than your average deck chair or plastic garden chair.
Synthetic rattan patio furniture has really increased in popularity in recent years owing to its relatively cheap price compared to other more smart garden furniture. It also mimics the look of many outdoor sections of villas in Greece, Turkey or Spain – giving a feel of the sunshine and holiday at home.
So this year, why not take a look at some modern conservatory furniture in the style of synthetic rattan furniture. It’s long lasting and stylish – great for spending the summer months outside as much as possible!
